What Is A Vision Board?

A vision board is a way of manifesting your dreams and desires and attracting them into your life by creating a visual representation of them to hang in your home.

These can also be called a dream board, dream wall, or goal board.

Vision boards work through the Law of Attraction – but what is the Law of Attraction?

Simply put, the Law of Attraction is the ability to attract into our lives whatever we are focusing on.

This means that if you are constantly believing in and visualizing achievements in your career, they will eventually come to you. That’s the power of the vision board.

The board is a place for you to compile your thoughts, goals, and aspirations in a creative way.

10 Powerful Vision Board Supplies

Before you start creating your vision board, read through this list of vision board supplies.

They will take you beyond making a basic vision board to creating one that will help you manifest your life goals like nothing else.

1. A Board

The very first thing you need to decide is what the base of this vision board will be.

There are lots of different ways to make a vision board, and each method has its own pros and cons. Let’s look at the most popular and common ones.

Corkboard

If you are going to display your vision board in your home office, a corkboard is one of the best ways to create it. There are lots of benefits to using a corkboard.

For one thing, it’s really easy to change as your dreams change. Since you aren’t gluing anything down, you can just take the pins out and replace them or move things around whenever you want.

They are also really easy to decorate. Lots of people add fabric and ribbons to their bulletin boards for added flair.

The only downside to using something as temporary as a corkboard is that you won’t have the ability to store it away for memory’s sake if you like to preserve your vision board to reflect on later.

This is only a minor drawback that you can remedy by taking a photograph of the board.

Poster Board

One of the most popular choices for dream boards is to use poster board. Posterboard makes an inexpensive vision board and it’s very practical since you can roll it up to store it when you are ready to create a new one.

One of the drawbacks to using posterboard is that it can look cheap compared to other options, but this can be remedied by gaming it. However, since you are gluing things to the board you can’t change them up later.

Just something to consider!

Canvas

Are you an artist who expresses yourself through color and paint? Then consider creating a vision board on canvas. You can still create a collage with quotes and photos.

There are so many creative ways to use a canvas. The downside is that this is one of the pricier backdrop options.

Journal

Another fairly easy and inexpensive option is to use a journal. The best thing about this idea is that it’s really easy to save your vision pages and go back and review them.

The downside to creating your vision board in a journal is that you might not see it every day. You run the risk of placing the journal on your desk or bookshelf and forgetting about it.

In order for the vision board to work, you have to see it and dwell upon the images you created.

Computer or Tablet

Some people simply create vision boards on Pinterest, or they use programs like Adobe Photoshop or Canva to design dream board collages.

This is the cheapest option of all since you can usually make a board on your computer for free.

The major downside to it is that you run the risk of never seeing it if you just save the file and don’t look at it again.

The best way to make sure you will look at it is to save the image of your vision board to your phone’s lock screen or computer’s background.

Wall Grid

A wall grid is a lot like a corkboard in terms of function, but there are clear visual and practical differences.

A wall grid is made of rigid metal wires that form a rectangle or square. After hanging it on the wall, you can then use clips or hooks to hang anything you want!

One of the benefits of a wall grid is it can serve other functions besides being a vision board, such as using it for extra storage in small spaces or hanging productivity helpers, like clipboards.

It’s also easy to move things around if you decide you don’t like the layout and to change to a new board at the end of the year!

Popular wall grid accessories include:

  • Shelves with vases or power objects
  • Pictures
  • Calenders
  • Plants (fresh or fake)
  • Fairy lights or garlands
  • Etc

2. Adhesive

The next tool you will need is some sort of adhesive with which to attach all your images and quotes.

The type of adhesive you use will depend on the board you are using. Obviously, for a corkboard, you’ll need thumbtacks (these rose gold ones are adorable) and for a poster board, you’ll need tape or glue.

3. Inspirational Images, Words, Quotes, and more

Next, you will need to find some inspirational pictures, quotes, and even objects to add to your board.

This is where you are going to be digging into the symbolism of your board.

Images

While one of the most common places to find inspirational pictures is from magazines, you will probably find it easier to simply find and print images off of your computer.

That way you can find exactly what you are looking for!

Obviously, you will need a printer or a printing service to do this — if you buy a printer, make sure it’s one that can also handle cardstock, letters, and other types of paper so you get your money’s worth!

Print them out and add them!

Photos

If you love photography you can also use your own photos. This simple idea is also super effective at adding extra oomph to your vision board.

This is because items you create yourself tend to be more powerful when it comes to manifesting since you are pouring your love and energy into creating them!

If you want to travel to a location you have photographed before, you can add that to your board.

Polaroids have also become really popular when it comes to creating vision boards and decorating aesthetic rooms. Some people even hang their Polaroid camera right next to their vision board or hook it to their wall grid!

Quotes

Look for quotes that represent the things you are trying to achieve and inspire you to reach for your goal.

You can either print them out or create your own quotes by writing them yourself in your journal, on paper, or on cardstock for your board.

Be the energy you want to attract.

START HERE:

Power objects

Power objects are personal totems that have special meaning to you, which you put on your board to infuse your energy. They should represent your personal goals in some way.

For example, in my vision board pictured below, I have a fairy card from my deceased mother that reads, “May all your dreams come true” as well as a $200 calligraphy paintbrush I found at a thrift store in a bundle for $4 (I need good thrifting luck).

I have a strong connection to these extremely personal items and they represent my dreams in a very powerful way.

4. Coloring Tools

Adding color to your board is another fun way to customize it — this is especially common with journal vision boards!

Depending on the type of board you are making, gather the most appropriate coloring tools. Some ideas are colored pencils, paint, markers, and gel pens.

5. Craft Tools

Another thing you will need before you begin crafting is a way to cut out your images and other pieces of decoration.

These are a few of the tools you may need to make sure you have with you:

  • Razorblade
  • Scissors
  • Decorative hole punch

6. Small Decorations

If you are the artistic sort, browse your local craft store and pick out anything that you think will make your vision board feel more energized and that fits your aesthetic.

These are small pieces of flair that will decorate your board and bring it to life.

Some examples include:

  • Ribbons
  • Glitter
  • Buttons
  • Souveniers
  • Stickers
  • Fabric
  • Scrapbook Paper

Garlands and lights are also a very popular vision board supply, such as the fairy lights pictured here, which come in ten colors.

7. Focus

This item is essential. If you are going to create a vision board, you need some uninterrupted time for serious introspection.

What sets your soul on fire and makes you want to get out there and work to get what you want?

The best way to give yourself the kind of focus that this project requires is to turn your phone to silent and turn on music that inspires you.

Set up your project in a room where no one will distract you. Don’t check your phone, don’t leave for anything. Bring your coffee or tea before you begin.

Focus is essential.

This is a very important project that requires all of your mind and heart.

8. Hanging Supplies

Whether you purchase hanging supplies depends on where you are going to display your vision board. If you used a foam board and it is going to be set on a shelf, you don’t need hanging supplies.

For all others, make sure you have a way to hang it up as soon as possible.

9. Frame

This is optional and depends on the type of board you are using. If you used a poster board, you might want to add a frame so you can hang it up on the wall for a more finished look.

You can also print out a vision board that you made on the computer and then frame it too!

10. Display Location

This last part is just as important as everything else on this list and you should have an idea about where you want to hang your board before you even create it.

Remember, in order for you to effectively manifest your dreams and attract them to you, you need to be able to surround your mind with the images from your board.

This means that you need to display it somewhere that you’ll see it often. Move things around in your office so you have room to put it when it’s done.

If you don’t prepare this ahead of time, you run the risk of just setting the board down in the corner and putting off the task of hanging it up “later,” indefinitely.

Pick a place to hang it up that you look at frequently. Above your desk is the best place of all!

Use Your Vision Board Supplies To Attract Success

Are you ready to begin crafting? This is going to be one of the best things you ever do for yourself. Pour your heart and passions into the board.

Then, really focus on what you created and believe it will happen — and should it happen, express your gratitude and receive your manifestation joyfully.

Believe. Acheive. Receive.

It is a true belief that will work with the Law of Attraction to bring good things to you. All things start with a thought.

Bring forth as much positive energy as you can and truly believe that you don’t only deserve all these things but that they will come to you.

You’ve got this!
