The Best Chocolate Chip Waffles
These are the BEST chocolate chip waffles! Not too sweet, filled with oooey, gooey chocolate morsels, and fluffy as clouds! Breakfast is one meal that seems to bring out a lot of complaining in my family. After rolling out of bed around 6:30 am the last thing I want to hear is:
- Mom, I don’t want oatmeal.
- Mom, I don’t want cereal.
- Moooom, toast is boring!
That’s why sometimes, sometimes, my friend — you’ve just got to bring out the big guns.
By big I mean HUGE; by guns, I mean chocolate. (Take that, Mr. Complain-y Pants and Captain Complainer!)
Chocolate chip waffle recipe
This chocolate chip waffle recipe makes about six large, round waffles if you are using a waffle iron like mine. This recipe can easily be doubled and you can freeze the leftover waffles to reheat them later.
Ingredients to make chocolate chip waffles:
- 2 cups of flour
- 1 tbsp of baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 3/4 cup milk + 2 tbsp
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp white sugar
- 1/2 tbsp coconut oil (or substitute olive oil)
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 cup chocolate chip morsels (dark, semi-sweet, whatever you like!)
Even though it says an extra 2 tbsp of milk, really you just need a little extra splash of milk to get the right consistency. I usually don’t even measure it out, but did for the sake of this recipe.
Besides the ingredients you will need:
- A measuring cup
- Measuring spoons
- A large mixing bowl
- A waffle iron
- Cooking spray
I love this waffle iron, which I have been using for more than 7 years! (It’s older than my kids, hahaha!) As for the cooking spray, we are going to use that to coat our waffle iron and make sure the waffle batter doesn’t stick to the waffle iron. (I don’t care if your waffle iron instructions say don’t use cooking spray; these are lies I tell you, all lies!) When it comes to cooking spray, I prefer to use canola oil (which has a higher burning point and very neutral flavor) for coating my waffle iron.

Chocolate Chip Waffles Recipe
These extra-fluffy chocolate chip waffles are easy to whip up from scratch and can satisfy any sweet tooth without being overly sugary. They are great for holiday or treating someone to a special breakfast.
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 3/4 cup milk + 2 tbsp
- 2 tbsp white sugar
- 1/2 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Combine the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl (flour, baking powder, salt) and stir to combine. Set aside.
- Place the coconut oil in a small bowl and microwave until liquid (around 30 seconds). Combine the wet ingredients (milk through vanilla) and stir to mix well.
- Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring as you pour. Whisk briskly until they are fully mixed (small lumps are okay).
- Set aside for 5 minutes and turn the waffle iron on to preheat. (I used a setting "3" on my waffle iron).
- Once the waffle batter has set, add the chocolate chips to the batter and fold in. Spray the waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray. Add around 1/4 cup to the center of the waffle iron and close to cook. Cook per your waffle iron's instructions or until done.
- Continue cooking until all the waffle batter is used up, spraying after every 2-3 waffles. Serve hot.

These look and sound SO yummy! Is there something you can use to replace the egg, for those that have allergies? Pinned!

I plan on sharing a no-egg recipe and that one will use APPLESAUCE in lieu of eggs. 🙂 You can also make flax eggs, but I find that recipe slightly less kid-friendly.
